  • *To receive services, students must be enrolled in an AAS or CT program. Additional requirements must be met to qualify for textbook, childcare, and transportation assistance programs. ​

    The Carl D. Perkins Success Center is a grant funded program in which services are provided and dependent upon the continued funding of the Carl D. Perkins Success and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006.

    Need help picking out a career? We can help you! The Success Center staff will help you find your career path and assist you during your entire journey. Call or come by our office, and we will be more than happy to explore your career options.     Child Care Assistance

    Child Care Assistance is provided in the Fall and Spring semesters. Applicants must apply online prior to the semester starting and before the application deadline. Childcare assistance applications become available May-July for Fall awards and Oct-Dec for Spring.

    To qualify, ​​student must:

  • Be enrolled in a career and technial major (enrolled in an AAS degree or Certificate program ),
  • Meet at least one unique population criteria
  • Use a state licensed and registered daycare provider
  • Be enrolled full time (12hrs); health professions students must be enrolled with the program cohort hours
  • Have and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Not all applicants that meet the above criteria will be awarded. This is a competitive scholarship. Applications are weighted and awarded on need and available funds.

    Soft Skill Development

    Navarro College has provided you with the tools to have the academic and the technical knowledge, but do you have the soft skills employers are demanding of students in today's workforce? Let us help you develop, or fine tune your softs skills. These skills will help you stand apart in interviewing, and once you have the job. Email, call, or stop by the office and ask for soft skill training.

    Textbook Assistance

    The Success Center provides textbook assistance every semester. Textbook applications become available online May-July for Fall textbook assistance and Oct-Dec for Spring assistance. Textbook assistance is also available on a walk-in basis, during the Fall and Spring semesters. The walk-in program begins the first day of the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. For walk-ins, textbooks are available to be checked out on a first come first serve basis.

    To be eligible you must:

    Have and Maintain a Minimum 2.0 GPA

    Meet at least one Unique Population criteria

    Apply online before semester starting and before application deadline.

    Not all applicants that meet the above criteria will be awarded. This is a competitive scholarship. Applications are weighted and awarded on need and available funds.

    Transportation Assistance

    Transportation Assistance is provided in the Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters to students who are enrolled in a clinical or internship. Applications become available May-July for Fall transportation assistance and Oct-Dec for Spring transportation. To be eligible you must:

    Have and Maintain a Minimum 2.0 GPA

    Meet at least one Unique Population criteria

    What is a Career & Technical Student?

    ​​​A Navarro College student that is enrolled in either an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) for a Certificate (CT) degree program. ​

    What is a Unique Population?

    A. Disabled is an individual who has: (1) a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, (2) a record of such an impairment, or (3) is regarded as having such an impairment.

    B. Economically Disadvantaged is a family or individual, including low income youth and adults, identified by low income which include one or more of the following: (1) annual income at or below the official poverty line, (2) eligibility for Aid to Families with Dependent Children or other public assistance programs, (3) receipt of a Pell Grant or comparable state program of need-based financial assistance, (4) eligibility for participation in programs assisted under JTPA, or (5) eligibility for benefits under Food Stamps.

    C. Non-traditional Students are persons entering a technical program or occupational non-traditional for their gender.

    D. Single parents are individuals who are unmarried or legally separated from a spouse, and either (1) has a minor child or children for which the parent has either custody or joint custody, or (2) is pregnant.

    E. Displaced Homemakers are individuals who (1) remuneration to care for a home and family, and for that reason has diminished marketable skills, (2) Is a parent whose youngest dependent child will become ineligible to receive assistance not later than 2 years after the date on which the parent applies for assistance under such title, (3) is employed or underemployed and is experiencing difficulty in obtaining or upgrading employment.

    F. English Learners are secondary school students, adults, or out-of-school youths who have limited ability in speaking, reading, writing, or understanding the English language, and (1) whose native language is a language other than English, (2) who live in a family or community environment in which language other than English is the dominant language.

    G. Youth who are in, or have aged out of, the foster care system; and

    H. Youth with a parent who (1) Is a member of the armed forces; and (2) Is on active duty

    When are financial assistance programs available?

    Fall & Spring

    Childcare, Transportation and Textbook Assistance programs are available for the Fall and Spring semesters by online application. Applicants must apply online, prior to the semester starting and before the application deadline. Applications become available May-July for Fall and Oct-Dec for Spring.

    Textbook assistance is also available on a walk-in basis, during the Fall and Spring semesters. This begins the first day of the Fall and Spring semester. Students must meet all the requirements as the online application students. Textbooks are checked out as available.

    Summer

    Textbook loans are the only financial program that is available during the summer semester. Applicants must apply online, prior to the semester starting and before the application deadline. Applications become available April for Summer.

    Not all applicants that meet the above criteria will be awarded. This is a competitive scholarship. Applications are weighted and awarded on need and available funds.
    Why are the Career Center Services available to career and technical students only?

    ​The Navarro College, Carl D. Perkins Success Center is funded by a Perkins Grant received through the state. To support career and technical education programs and the students in those programs. Funds must be used to support career and technical education.
