​The Testing Center is dedicated to providing all examinees a quiet, non-disruptive setting in which they may test for college placement (TSI Assessment), credit by examination (CLEP), entrance into Allied Health programs (TEAS), higher education equivalency (GED and TASC), as well as for online and distance education courses. Our goal in Testing is to ensure your success through supporting your assessment needs as effectively and efficiently as possible.

​ All tests at all Navarro College Testing Centers require a photo ID. Some items are not allowed in testing centers; however, lockers are available for your convenience at all our locations. Earplugs are also available upon request. Our test centers will always provide you with any pencils or scratch paper you may need while testing.

​ All testing is by appointment. Please note that we recommend you make your appointment 48 hours prior to the date you wish to test so that we may best accommodate you. Students will not be permitted to begin a test within two hours of closing. All exams are collected at closing time, even if not complete.

​ We are current providers of the high school equivalency tests known as the TASC test through Data Recognition Corporation (DRC|CTB). Upon the successful completion of a single exam, the test taker will be issued a State of Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency.

FAQ

What is the CLEP test, and what subjects are offered?

The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP®) offers you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the 33 CLEP examinations. CLEP exams allow people who have acquired comprehensive subject knowledge through independent or prior study, on-the-job training, or cultural pursuits to show that they have acquired college-level material. Please check with your college or university prior to testing for a list of accepted subjects.

How do I register for the CLEP test at Navarro College?

To register for a CLEP test, go to the official CLEP webpage (http://clep.collegeboard.org) where you will create an account, select your examination, and pay the $87 test fee. CLEP’s My Account is a feature that enables candidates to create adn manage their own personal accounts, register and pay for CLEP exams, and purchase study materials all in one place. After you have registered online, you will need to schedule an appointment either in person or by phone at (903) 875-7457. The CLEP test is administered on an appointment basis on the Corsicana campus only. Appointment times are Mondays through Fridays at 10:00am. You may not take an examination for credit in any subject for which you have already received a passing grade. Keep in mind that you may not repeat an examination of the same title within six months of the initial testing date.

How much will it cost me?

The CLEP test fee is $87.00, paid directly to the testing company, for all students. The $87.00 may be paid by credit/debit (MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express), after you have registered at the official website. Upon completion of payment, you should receive a registration ticket which you will need to print or have available on your smartphone when you arrive at the Testing Center. An additional $25.00 administration fee is assessed for all students and is to be paid at the Cashier’s Office the day of the test.

How long does the test take to complete, and when do I receive my scores?

You are allotted 90 minutes for all CLEP tests. Please keep in mind, the CLEP test must be completed at a single sitting. You will receive your official score report (except for the College Composition exam which is scored every 14 days) before leaving the Testing Center on the test day. It may take several weeks for your institution to receive its official score report and award credit.

What do I need to bring with me to test?

You will need photo identification, your printed registration ticket, and a receipt for the $25.00 administration fee. Required identification for the CLEP tests include one valid, government-issued ID with your photo and signature as well as a secondary ID with your name and either photo or signature. Employee IDs, Social Security cards, and credit/debit cards are not acceptable forms of ID for CLEP examinations. The Navarro College Testing Center will provide pencils and scratch paper. No study aids, outside scratch paper, or other materials will be allowed; however, lockers will be provided for storage of personal items.

How do I prepare for the CLEP test?

You can go to the official CLEP website for the Information for Candidates bulletin. You may also consider purchasing the CLEP Official Study Guide which contains practice questions for all 33 CLEP e xams or a CLEP Exam Guide for a specific subject if you only plan on taking one or two tests.​

Does Navarro College offer the Comp TIA?

​Navarro College Testing Center in Corsicana now offers the Pearson Comp TIA certification tests. For more information, go to http://www.pearsonvue.com/comptia/ .

TCEQ

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is the environmental agency for the state of Texas. We offer credentialing exams for this agency on an appointment only basis. The testing fee is $25, and you will need a valid state issued ID card and an appointment to test. Please call us at 903-875-7417 for an appointment.

TEAS test for Nursing and Physical Therapy

​The Navarro College Testing center offers the TEAS test for entrance to our Nursing and Physical Therapy programs. Several requirements are necessary to take the TEAS test.

1. The TEAS test is held at Navarro College campuses at Waxahachie, Midlothian and Corsicana only.

2. We give the test Monday through Friday at 8:00 AM.

3. All tests are by appointment only.

4. You must register with ATI first.

5. Go to atitesting.com and click "create an account."

6. Write your user name and password on a piece of paper. You will not be admitted into the test without this step.

7. After you hit the register button, stop, and go no further.

8. Do not attempt to pay for the test.

9. Bring your credit card, ID card and username and password to the testing center the day of your appointment.

10. Cell phones, food and drink are not allowed in the testing center.

11. There is a $25 proctor fee for students who do not attend Navarro College.

TSI Assessment

​ What is the TSI Assessment, and what skills are covered in the test?

​ The TSI Assessment is a computer adaptive test, which means that each question is chosen based on your answers to previous questions, tailoring your test specifically for you and your ability level. The test helps us determine if you’re ready for college-level course work in the general subjects of writing, reading and mathematics. Your scores will be used to either place you in a college-level course or in the appropriate developmental course to improve your skills and prepare you for success in college-level courses.

​ What is the TSI Pre-Assessment Activity, and why do I have to take it before testing?

​ It is mandatory that you complete the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) prior to taking the TSI Assessment for the first time. The PAA helps prepare you for the placement test and includes the following information:

​ An explanation of the importance of the TSI Assessment Practice test questions and feedback An explanation of all your developmental education options, if you don’t meet the minimum passing standard Information on campus and community resources that will help you succeed as a college student Also, the CollegeBoard offers a new TSI Assessment Web-Based Study App that is free for all students. You can use this tool to familiarize yourself with basic content questions asked on the TSI Assessment. The study guide app features practice tests in the Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, College-Level Math, Reading, Comprehension and Sentence Skills which can be accessed from a tablet, smartphone, or computer using a standard browser.

How do I take the TSI Assessment at Navarro College?

The TSI Assessment is administered on an appointment basis at each of Navarro College’s Testing Centers. The days and times available varies for the different campuses, so be sure to call ahead to set your appointment.

How much will it cost me?

The fee for the TSI Assessment is $35 for Navarro College students.The TSI Assessment fee is to be paid at the Cashier’s Office the day of the test. Navarro College prospective students should have submitted an Application for Admission to the Admissions Office prior to testing.

How long does the test take to complete?

The test is untimed, and the actual length of the test varies. You should allot three to five hours for the TSI Assessment. Please keep in mind, the multiple-choice portions of the TSI Assessment can be saved and finished later if you run out of time for the day or need to take a long break; however, you must complete the essay portion in one sitting.

What do I need to bring with me to test?

You will need photo identification and the $35 test fee. The Navarro College Testing Center will provide scratch paper and pencils; the calculator is built into the test program. No study aids will be allowed.

How do I prepare for the TSI Assessment test?

You can go to the official TSI Assessment website for sample questions. You may also download the TSI Web-Based Study App, accessible from any computer, tablet or smartphone.

The newly approved college readiness benchmarks for writing are as follows:

A placement score of at least 340 and an essay score of at least 4; OR A placement score of less than 340 and an ABE diagnostic level of at least a 4 and an essay score of at least 5.
